So here we have it.. The best Super Nintendo games of all time! This list was not the easiest to put together, since any true gamer would know that the SNES has some of the most critically acclaimed games of all time.
It is my hope that this list brings inspiration and eagerness for people to pop that SNES back out or use an emulator and relive some of the best games ever made.

10. Star Fox
Release Date: 1993
Genre: Action-Shooter
Synopsis: Andross, an evil floaty head thing that we later learned was actually some sort of primate, has sent his armies to threaten the planet Corneria. As Star Fox, the leader of an elite team of mercernaries, it’s up to you to stop him in this groundbreaking 3D rail shooter. So what are you waiting for? Jump in your trusty Arwing and fight your way through the Lylat system to Andross’s base on Venom! Do it now! Star Fox’s famous polygonal graphics are made possible by a special Super FX chip built into the cartridge.

9. Donkey Kong Country Series (1, 2 & 3)
Release Date: 1994
Genre: Platformer
Synopsis: One night, Donkey Kong decides to put his pal Diddy Kong in charge of guarding his banana stash. Unfortunately, this move happens to coincides with an assault on the stash, in which the evil K. Rool and his Kremling minions run off with all of Donkey Kong’s yellow potassium-filled treats. When Donkey Kong returns the next morning, he finds his bananas are gone and that Diddy has been stuffed in a nearby barrel. DK doesn’t take shit from anyone, especially not some random guy that wasn’t even created by Nintendo, so he sets out to avenge and/or retrieve his food supply. Oh yeah, and Diddy goes with him. I couldnt choose just one game in the series because they were all so great.. Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 and 3 all deserve 9th place.

8. Super Mario World 2
Release Date: 1995
Genre: Platformer
Synopsis: An evil Magikoopa named Kamek attempts to take twin babies from a stork, but only succeeds in capturing one of them. The other one falls into sea and is rescued by a friendly Yoshi. That child is Baby Mario, the prisoner is Baby Luigi. You are Yoshi. As Baby Mario’s de facto caretaker, you must keep him safe from danger and reunite him with brother. Also, there’s a final badass showdown with Baby Bowser.

7. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time
Release Date: 1992
Genre: Action
Synopsis: After Shredder and Krang steal the Statue of Liberty, the Turtles rush out to stop him. But during a showdown at the Technodrome, the Turtles are caught in a time warp and sent back to the prehistoric era. Now they’ll have to fight Shredder’s minions in past and future setting as they search for a time warp that might finally bring them home. Based on the popular Konami arcade game.

6. Super Metroid
Release Date: 1994
Genre: Action-Shooter
Synopsis: Samus has successfully destroyed all known Metroids in the universe, except for one, which she brings to the Ceres Space Colony as a research specimen. Shortly after her departure from Ceres, Samus receives a distress signal from the colony. She returns to find that it being attacked by her old enemy Ridley. Samus attempts to stop him, but she fails, and Ridley escapes with the Metroid specimen and activates the colony’s self-destruct sequence. Samus makes it out just in time, and she tracks Ridley back to Zebes, the old space pirate base where she fought him, Kraid, and Mother Brain in the original Metroid game. She finds that the pirates have completely rebuilt their base. Knowing what will happen if the pirates begin replicating the Metroids again, Samus sets out to destroy their base a second time.

5. Earthbound
Release Date: 1995
Genre: Action-Adventure
Synopsis: In the year 199X, in a world almost as mundane as our own, a young boy named Ness receives a strange visitor from the future. The visitor tell him that an evil being known as Gigyas will conquer the world unless Ness finds three other kids and gets them to help him defeat Gigyas. Ness does find these kids – Paula, Jeff, and Poo – but it turns out the strange visitor was just a pedophile who wanted to violate all four of them. Wait, no, the guy was telling the telling the truth about Gigyas, he doesn’t rape them, they save the day, and everyone lives happily ever after. But before that happens, you’ll have to beat up hippies, goats, loaded dice, barf, and all sorts of other weird and awesome enemies.

4. Super Mario World
Release Date: 1991
Genre: Platformer
Synopsis: After the events of Super Mario Bros. 3, Mario, Luigi, and the Princess decide to go on a nice relaxing vacation in Dinosaur Land. But while they’re there, the Princess is abducted and soon becomes clear that Bowser and his Koopa Kids are behind the plot. Not only that, but they’ve taken over Dinosaur Land. Now Mario, Luigi, and their new dinosaur friend Yoshi are going to have to defeat the evil Bowser and restore peace once again.

3. Chrono Trigger
Release Date: 1995
Genre: Action-Adventure
Synopsis: What starts off as an assuming day at a fair in 1000 A.D. quickly turns into a tale of time travel, swords, and sorcery in Square’s legendary RPG. An evil entity known as Lavos threatens the future of the world, and it’s up the young hero Crono and his friends to destroy it in an adventure that spans from 65,000,000 B.C. to the End of Time.

2. Super Mario All Stars
Release Date: 1993
Genre: Platformer
Synopsis: A compilation cartridge featuring all three Super Mario games from the 8-bit era, reprogrammed from the ground up with 16-bit graphics and higher quality sound. Also is included is a 16-bit remake of The Lost Levels, better known to Japanese gamers as the REAL Super Mario Brothers 2.

1. The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past
Release Date: 1992
Genre: Action-Adventure
Synopsis: The evil wizard Agahnim has taken over Hyrule Castle and imprisoned Princess Zelda in its basement. After the young hero Link rescues her, he learns of the full extent of Agahnim’s evil intentions. Agahnim plans to use Zelda’s body in a dark ritual that will break an ancient seal and release the powerful wizard Ganon from imprisonment in the Dark World.

Good list, I must say that LTTP is a good choice for #1, although my top pick isn’t on your list. My #1 SNES game is Final Fantasy 6, (originally 3 on SNES). Great to see Chrono Trigger and Earthbound on the list though.
